Maria Carmen V. Gonzales-Vigilar, M.D., MS

Doctor VigilarDr. Gonzales-Vigilar is a child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.  She has been serving the Northern Virginia area in various capacities since 2007.  Currently, she is treating patients full-time in an outpatient setting at Gonzales-Vigilar Psychiatric Services in Ashburn, VA.  She is certified in providing TMS treatment, FDA-approved to adults with depression and OCD.  When clinically indicated, she incorporates the most advanced pharmacogenomic information using the Genomind Genecept Assay into the treatment of her patients.  Outside of her full-time job, Dr. Gonzales-Vigilar also volunteers as a psychiatrist at the Loudoun County Free Clinic since 2014. 

She has extensive experience as a clinician while occupying other positions in various clinical treatment settings.  From July 2007 to March 2016, she worked as Medical director for 6 years at Grafton Integrated Health Network in Berryville, VA, a residential facility for individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders.  She served as Medical Director for the first 6 years and remained a part-time psychiatrist for 3 more years.  From August 2012 to March 2014, she served as medical director and part-owner of Dominion Center for Behavioral Health Services in South Riding, VA; a mid-size single-specialty behavioral health group practice.  From October 2013 to March 2016, she was the Medical Director of Choices; Dominion Hospital’s adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) in Ashburn, VA.

Dr. Gonzales-Vigilar obtained her medical degree from the University of Santo Tomas, Manila, Philippines.  She completed her general psychiatry residency training at Henry Ford Hospital and child/adolescent fellowship at Wayne State University, both in Detroit, MI.  During her fellowship, she served as the chief resident and was recognized as the outstanding graduating child and adolescent fellow.  She is certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.  In addition, she obtained a Masters Degree in Human Nutrition and Foods from Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, VA.

Her fields of Interest include autistic spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, mood disorders, anxiety disorders including trauma related conditions, and psychotic disorders.  As part of her assessment, Dr. Gonzales-Vigilar utilizes evidence-based measures indicated for each condition. 

She is a current member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP), and Neuroscience Education Institute (NEI).

She is married to Greg G. Vigilar, Jr., Ph.D., a civil engineer, who is the Chief Executive Officer of GVPS. They have two daughters, both in the medical field.

Dr. Vigilar is fluent in English and Tagalog.
